Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to this role?
I’ve been in the utilities sector for quite a while now, and my background has always centred around sales, I’m very much a people and relationships person. Before joining Leep, I held several sales roles at SSE, eventually leading the sales function for their electric, water, gas, and heat services. We developed a multi-utility package, managing design and build for developers, consultants, and landowners. When Ancala and Peel Group created Leep Utilities, I came on board to build the sales function from the ground up. I worked closely with our CEO to create the foundation for what has become an amazing, high-performing sales team.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Definitely working with my team to strengthen customer relationships. It really plays to two of my core strengths: understanding people and making things happen quickly. I’m lucky to work with a group of highly skilled, reliable, and successful individuals, and we genuinely enjoy working together to deliver for our customers. I also thrive on the buzz of sales and the challenge of winning. Being part of a successful and growing business like Leep makes that all the more rewarding.
What challenges are you helping your customers tackle this year?
The market is tough right now, and the cost-of-living crisis is putting pressure on everyone. But that challenge also gives us the opportunity to add real value. For example, our approach of separating construction and adoption costs can often help customers unlock unexpected capital from their utility assets. We’re also a lot more approachable and responsive than many incumbent operators, which makes a big difference to our customers when they need quick, reliable support.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from a colleague?
Focus on what you’re good at and remember what got you there. Also, never underestimate the importance of getting the basics right, call when you say you will, follow up when you say you will. People notice and appreciate that consistency.
If you could have dinner with any historical or industry leader, who would it be?
I’ve always been a great admirer of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The way she led, with such grace, dignity, and unwavering commitment over so many decades, is incredibly inspiring. I’d love the chance to go back in time and host a dinner in her honour. It would be an opportunity to express my gratitude and admiration, and to gain insight into her experiences and the resilience it must have taken to serve in such a unique and demanding role for so long.
