Leep Utilities’ expertise in data centre power connections has been featured in Data Centre Insights, with Simon Jewell, our Head of Sales and Data Centre lead, contributing an article examining why early decision-making is becoming increasingly important for developers navigating the evolving electricity connections landscape.
Titled ‘The increasing importance of early decision-making in data centre connections’, the article explores how recent reforms by the National Energy System Operator (NESO) and Ofgem are changing the way projects are assessed, with greater emphasis on readiness, credible delivery plans and evidence of progress.
While grid capacity remains a significant challenge for the sector, Simon argues that the decisions developers make, and when they make them, can be just as important. Metering strategy, power phasing and network configuration all have implications for project readiness, delivery programmes and long-term commercial outcomes.
The article also examines the importance of selecting the right connections partner from the outset: one with the technical, legal and commercial expertise to help navigate complexity, respond to changing requirements and support a project from its earliest stages.
The feature reflects the growing importance of early engagement and informed decision-making as data centre developers work to secure the power their projects need.
