132kV network adoption for a global blue-chip data centre
EHV
Leep DC 1
London, UK
How Leep combined EHV expertise, flexibility and early engagement to support the successful delivery of a complex data centre project.
The challenge
Powering a UK blue-chip data centre
Key challenges included:
A global blue-chip technology company was developing a major UK data centre, requiring a high capacity 132kV connection and a network partner able to support the project through a complex and demanding delivery programme.
Data centre projects operate against tight timescales, significant power requirements and stringent resilience expectations. With multiple technical, commercial and programme considerations to manage, the project required a partner that could bring clarity to the connection process, identify potential constraints early and respond quickly as requirements evolved.
The customer was also looking for a partner capable of taking ownership of complexity, coordinating effectively with the wider project team and maintaining momentum through to successful network adoption.
The solution
Brought into the project through a trusted relationship
Leep was brought into the project through the customer’s project consultant, who had an established relationship with our team and confidence in our ability to deliver against the project’s requirements.
From the outset, we took a proactive, early-engagement approach, working closely with the project team to understand the site, programme, power requirements and resilience needs.
Our approach focused on:
- Early identification of constraints – working proactively to identify technical and programme risks before they could impact delivery.
- Flexible network strategy – developing an approach tailored to the site footprint, programme and resilience requirements.
- Transparent information – providing clear technical and commercial information to support informed decision-making.
- No advance reservation charges – removing an additional barrier at the early stages of the project.
- Specialist expertise – bringing extensive experience of high-voltage and EHV network adoption, supported by continued investment in specialist qualifications.
- Scalable resource – mobilising the wider Leep organisation as required to maintain progress and respond to the demands of the project.
This approach meant Leep could own the complexity where needed, while providing the customer and wider project team with the clarity and confidence required to keep delivery on track.
The project also provided an opportunity to introduce new processes and ways of working, some of which the customer subsequently adopted as best-practice approaches for future projects.
Why Leep?
Data centre connections demand more than technical capability alone
They require a network partner that understands the pace, complexity and commercial pressures involved – and can respond accordingly.
Leep combines specialist EHV expertise with a flexible, transparent approach to network adoption. We work proactively from the outset to understand project requirements, identify constraints and develop practical strategies that support reliable delivery.
Our approach is underpinned by:
- A proven data centre track record
Experience supporting complex, high-capacity network adoption projects and working alongside specialist data centre project teams. - Specialist EHV capability
Continued investment in specialist qualifications and expertise to support connections at 132kV and above. - Transparent processes
Clear technical and commercial information that helps customers understand their options, make informed decisions and manage risk. - A flexible approach
Network strategies shaped around the individual requirements of the site, programme and resilience needs – rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. - A partnership mindset
We become an extension of the project team, taking ownership of complexity, mobilising the right resources and remaining focused on successful delivery.
“From the outset, Leep proved to be easy to work with – flexible, agile, and entirely focused on successful delivery. Their team’s deep expertise and proactive approach stood out, with empowered representatives who were not only highly knowledgeable but also capable of mobilising the entire Leep organisation to keep the project on track. “Delivering data centres is a complex challenge, yet Leep made the process as seamless as possible, owning the complexity where needed, scaling resources as required, and leveraging their experience to ensure smooth execution. “We were so impressed by their approach that we now consider Leep our UK Power Partner.”
